Lower School

Centerbrook is designing the renovation and expansion of the Lower School at this 1,250-student coeducational independent school located in a western suburb of St. Louis. MICDS offers an academically challenging and well-rounded liberal arts education in a coeducational learning environment for students in Junior Kindergarten through grade 12. Its 100-acre campus is composed of stately red brick buildings set in a carefully tended landscape.

The lower school enrolls approximately 215 students in grades JK-4, housing them in three separate buildings. The goal of the project is to consolidate administrative and academic functions while creating a stronger sense of arrival for students and families.

Centerbrook’s design enhances the student experience with a learning commons, collaboration areas for faculty, an improved library and maker area, and a glassy dining facility, all gathered near a prominent front entry addition. The library will feature cozy child-sized nooks, soft seating, bright colors, and a maker space shown off through arched windows. Site enhancements will ease congestion and enhance safety during drop off and pickup.
