Columbia Bay will be a new mixed-use community serving as the southern gateway to the nation's capital. It consists of approximately 100 acres of gently rolling terrain located less than four miles south of downtown Washington, DC. Portions of the site offer stunning views of the Potomac River and adjacent parks.
Columbia Bay will provide new homeownership and rental opportunities in a community which is beginning to share in the region's growth and prosperity. Columbia Bay includes 95 single-family detached homes, 250 garage townhomes, and 520 multi-family units, including both condominiums and apartments. A 150-room hotel and a 66-slip marina complex will border Oxon Cove and its Potomac River frontage. Columbia Bay Town Center will serve as the community's retail focus, with a 60,000 square foot grocery store as its anchor. It will also have 40 acres of parks, a community center, visitor information center, and environmental education center. The community will emphasize inter-model transportation links, taking advantage of its location along Interstate 295, other major roadways, and the waterfront.
Columbia Bay holds the promise of becoming a vibrant new neighborhood for Anacostia that will build a genuine sense of community. It will do so by employing architectural forms and details that maintain the social traditions of Washington's great neighborhoods. Set within tree-lined streets and park spaces, Columbia Bay's familiar brick-fronted and wooden clapboard houses will have porches and stoops from which residents can view the street and visit neighbors. Towers, flagpoles, gazebos, and cupolas will provide clear focus for major streets and urban spaces. A formal green and less formal large park will be special venues for community celebrations and events.
