A simple rectangle, the central space of this rustic cabin is formed by its traditional log structure. It sits on piles to avoid disturbance of the flood plain at the edge of a loblolly pine forest. This place of quiet contemplation captures views across the vast marshland to the south.

At the entry to the cabin, steps made from split logs lead to tree-trunk columns that support the roof beams, which are spaced irregularly to mimic the surrounding pines. A sitting deck outside three French doors at the rear of the cabin has a faux truss overhead, like a tangle of forest branches. Inside, the main sitting space is octagonal, and the fireplace is framed by tree trunks and roots and is topped by a copper-clad chimney chase. Tucked behind this is a short entry hall and bathroom.

Closed in and protected by woods at the entry side, and glassy at the rear for the view, the cabin is a safe haven in the midst of a wilderness, where the wonders of nature are manifest.
