Hillside Campus Project Profiled
Laboratory Design Newsletter published an article in its August issue detailing the latest expansion at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory on Long Island. Its new Hillside Campus, designed by Centerbrook and opened last year, has added 40 percent to the research capacity of the world-renowned institution. In its 120th year and with seven Nobel Laureates to its credit, Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is home to more than 400 scientists The institution that jumpstarted the study of molecular biology was where, in 1953, Dr. James D. Watson presented his first public lecture on his and Francis Crickâs discovery of the double-helical structure of DNA.
Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory conducts research into the fundamentals of genetics with a focus on cancer, neuroscience, genomics and bioinformatics, plant biology and quantitative biology. Centerbrook has been the architect for dozens of new buildings and renovations there over the past three decades.
