Centerbrook is frequently asked to go beyond the strict limits of architectural design. The needs and dreams of its clients often encompass a building and its contents as well. When the budget allows - or at times demands - the architects find themselves designing a wide array of items, including furniture, light fixtures, fountains, murals, wallpaper, carpets, mosaics, fireplace utensils, sculpture, special ornaments, and even bird-houses, all to fortify a sense of place and their clients' vision.

The high degree of craft required and the comparatively small scale of these objects offer Centerbrook a proving ground for adventurous design, and an affordable way to have a lot of fun. The firm's furniture design starts with an understanding of the human body's anatomy and an eye to physical comfort. Often, furnishings reproduce or recall the design motifs of the host building. In some cases, furniture or decorative objects create or reinforce a particular image of message and thus act as symbols. Exterior elements such as fountains, rain gutters, or birdbaths frequently play with the whimsy of the weather or site.
