Chad Floyd, FAIA

Chad Floyd received undergraduate and Master of Architecture degrees from Yale University in 1966 and 1973 respectively. He received the Cogswell Award upon graduation in 1966 and the Winchester Traveling Fellowship in 1973, and with it he traveled in India. Before joining Centerbrook Architects and Planners as a partner in 1978, he spent two years on an individual National Endowment for the Arts Grant researching the role of architecture in public celebration. In 1991 he was advanced to the American Institute of Architects College of Fellows.

Mr. Floyd is recognized for innovative urban design techniques that use a participatory format to involve the public in the planning and design process. Working in cities across the country he has undertaken studies of downtown districts, riverfronts, public parks, and cultural attractions. By building consensus among citizens he has achieved an extraordinary record of implementation. His recently completed urban projects include the Palmer Events Center in Austin, Texas and the new town of Belmont Bay in Prince William County, Virginia.

His other special interests have included theaters and art museums with projects such as the Hood Museum of Art at Dartmouth College, the Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach, the Krieble Gallery at the Florence Griswold Museum in Old Lyme, Connecticut, and the Garde Theater in New London, Connecticut. In addition, Mr. Floyd has designed numerous other projects for both Dartmouth College and Pfizer Corporation.
